Statistical concepts - Econometrics 11 years ago

  1. Suppose that the energy research consulting company that you work for has tasked you with determining: Is purchasing premium gasoline better than purchasing regular (unleaded) gasoline? There are many things that you need to consider as you conduct your research. The first thing that you will need to do is to define what you mean by "better" in your research. Then you will need to identify all of the factors/variables that might matter in answering your question - distance travelled, amount of traffic, usual speed limit, type of car, age of car. Also, does price level of each of the types of gasoline matter? What about price differences?

Note that there is no single answer to this question. And you don't want an answer that is so specific that it can't be generalized to other situations. I urge you to think creatively about the question using the data collection concepts discussed in class. In particular, describe:

a) an ideal randomized (controlled) experiment to answer the question: Is purchasing premium gasoline better than purchasing regular (unleaded) gasoline? (note that I use the term ideal, as it might be an experiment that is ideal but not implementable in the field);

b) an observational cross-sectional data set that would allow you to answer this question.........

Create basic test cases for a program

Apply arrays, strings, and pointers

Summarize differences between array notation and pointer notation

Apply pointer arithmetic

Apply basic string handling library functions

Define and implement structures in C

Summarize the operations of a linked list

Describe the operations of a queue including: enqueue ( ), dequeue ( ), printQueue ( )

Overview & Requirements:

Note: parts of this assignment were inspired by Deitel and Deitel's Supermarket Simulation problem. We've all had the pleasant experience of standing in line at the grocery store. As I'm standing in line I'm always trying to figure out if I chose the line with the fastest service. In most cases, I fail miserably. Let's write a program to simulate two lines in a grocery store, which will allow us to better understand how to select the fastest line.

For this assignment you will need to simulate two lines using queues. This will require that you develop enqueue ( ) (insert), dequeue ( ) (delete), and printQueue ( ) operations for a queue. Although you will instantiate two queues, each one of these will consist of the same kind of queue nodes. Define a queue node in the following manner:

Operation Research- The production and sales managers 11 years ago

Indicate what would be the relevant population and the most appropriate sampling design. Be sure to give the reasons for your answers.

Scenario

The McArthur Company produces special vacuum cleaners for conveniently cleaning the inside of cars. About a thousand of these, with stamped serial numbers, are produced every month and stored serially in a stockroom.

Once a month an inspector does a quality control check on 50 of these. When he certifies them as to quality, all 1000 units are released from the stockroom for sale. The production and sales managers, however, are not satisfied with the quality control check since, quite often, many of the units sold are returned by customers because of various types of defects.

Network Security Tools - Computer Network Security 11 years ago

Select a tool from "Top 100 Network Security Tools". The use of an open-source tool is highly encouraged.

Cain and Abel

UNIX users often smugly assert that the best free security tools support their platform first, and Windows ports are often an afterthought. They are usually right, but Cain & Abel is a glaring exception. This Windows-only password recovery tool handles an enormous variety of tasks. It can recover passwords by sniffing the network, cracking encrypted passwords using dictionary, brute-force and cryptanalysis attacks, recording VoIP conversations, decoding scrambled passwords, revealing password boxes, uncovering cached passwords and analyzing routing protocols. It is also well documented. For downloads and more information, visit the Cain and Abel homepage.

2) It is required that you install and run the tool in an enclosed network environment or use it on your own computer ONLY. An enclosed network environment means a non-operational networked system without any physical connection to other working computing environments (e.g., the Internet). Special attention should be paid when you use network scanners, sniffers, hacking tools or password crackers because their usage may violate an organization's security policies or compromise other computing resources.............

Getting prepared for University in your School Days 12 years ago

Many high school seniors and juniors will be going by the process of preparing for university. It is a large step, and one of the most important ones you will ever take. It may be your first time away from house and living by yourself. You will make new friends, many of whom you will know for the whole life. And the decisions you make can have a huge impact on things like your future job or income, and debt. Here we talk about what you need to do from the first day of high school to ensure that you go to the university you want, study what you want, and don’t have to take huge student loans to pay for it.

Grades

You probably know this, right? You need to focus on getting better grades. That does not mean if you acquire a B or a C in high school, you won’t get into university. Many universities accept students with grade point averages as low as 2.0. One of the most important reasons for focusing on grades, though, is that better grades can potentially save you tens of thousands of dollars. For improve your grades solve textbook assignment, in mean while if you get confused then go for the online assignment help providers. That will help you to write your textbook assignments.

Writing

A recent university professor told me that he expected 20% of his new students to fail his university freshman writing course. Writing is a fundamental skill required for success in university and also for some of the things you will need to do to get to university like writing an SAT essay as well as university application letters or scholarship essays. The key is to pay attention and start honing this skill from Day One. First and foremost, learn how to write an efficient essay with a thesis, better supporting paragraphs and a succinct conclusion. Even if you plan on going into math or engineering, you will have to write your entire university career, and you will be expected to write well. Don’t jeopardize your future accomplishment by neglecting this skill.

Chase Your Dreams

You have probably heard it is important to be involved in activities like drama, sports, or clubs while you are in high school or volunteer work and community activities. And this is true. But make sure your activities reflect your true passions. Don’t just sign up for Speech and Drama because it will look good on a university application. Instead, pursue things that interest you. They will explore you to a lot more, keep you more involved and so you are more likely to stick with them. In fact, they may also help make your goals for university. If the Physics Club is “your thing” then you will likely do just fine when you show up for your first Phy 101 course in university, and they will be happy to have you.

Choose Your Courses Wisely

University admissions offices pay attention to the courses you have taken. If you are telling them you want to be a math major that should be reflected in your high school transcript. Now relax—you usually don’t have to choose you’re major until the end of your sophomore year of university. But you should begin forming a plan early on in high school, and begin taking high school courses in that area. At the very least, it is helpful to know if you are interested in more of the math, social sciences, the physical sciences, or the humanities and arts and try taking a lot of these classes in your freshman year of high school. If you find out that was not your thing, you can still change your plan and take classes that will improve your chances of getting into a university with a courses that suits you, like Studio Art, Genetics or Engineering—the future is up to you as long as you plan for it!
